Sue Crowe has 20 years of experience exclusively in the construction industry. She holds a Bachelors Degree of Science in Accounting and Business Administration. She has had a steady career long growth pattern from her first job as an Accounts Payable clerk at Modern Continental on the Big Dig in Boston all the way up to her current role as the CFO of Veterans Development Corporation, Inc. Sue has held positions with the owners / clients, subcontractors, specialty contractors and general contractors. She has worked at Partners Healthcare at both the Mass General and Brigham and Women’s Campus, she has worked for a disaster response and restoration company as well as a major Boston union masonry contractor.
Sue plays a vital role as one of the core executives at Veterans Development Corporation, Inc. since she officially joined the company in July of 2017. She oversees all aspects of the financial functions within the company. In addition to performing these duties, she oversees all of human resources including overseeing proper certified payroll administration, assists with our IT functions to ensure functionality and security on our network at all times, she also works on any legal matters including reviewing contracts and legal documents. She takes the lead on all of our banking and bonding functions. Sue manages the company insurance programs including Workers Compensation Insurance, General Liability Insurance, employee health and dental insurance and Life and Disability coverages. She oversees the general operations of the office and manages her staff as they perform accounting and reporting functions for the company.
In her spare time, Sue enjoys traveling and is an avid animal lover. She has a very spoiled dog named Finnegan and many fresh and salt water fish tanks. She even has a salt water tank in the office that everyone enjoys stopping by to see!
Responsible for managing the company’s project estimates, Victor is a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956. Victor brings over 60 years of construction experience to the company and is in charge of all the Mechanical Contracting Departments which involve estimating, engineering and construction cost analysis.
Kevin Bishop oversees the day to day operations of the construction service division of Veterans Development Corporation, Inc. which include field and the project management staff.
Mr. Bishop brings a strong work ethic having over 20 years of industrial mechanical experience. Kevin also has overseen mechanical projects both as a field supervisor and project manager. Mr. Bishop’s expansive field experience have given him a strong ability to evaluate and address field issues using sound problem solving techniques resulting in smooth process of job flow and cost control.
Trade Licenses include: Unrestricted Master Sheet Metal, OSHA 30 Hour Card and Construction Supervisor
Education background includes four years – Metal Fabrication, Technical Drawings & Blueprint Reading
Derek Davies is our Vice President of Operations. He joined the VDC team in the spring of 2017. Derek began his career in 1998 working as a residential carpenter focusing on historic barn restoration, finish carpentry, and new construction development. In 2006, Derek acquired his Bachelor of Science – Information Design & Corporate Communications at Bentley University and made the transition from residential field work, to commercial project management. Since then he has completed various federal projects, ranging in both size and complexity in a prior position with another Federal contractor. Over his career, Derek has performed different roles to meet project needs including General Superintendent, Site Safety Officer, and Quality Control Manager for the Department of Veteran Affairs – VISN1, US Navy, NAVFAC, US Army Corp of Engineers, and the US Coast Guard.
Derek enjoys spending his free days at the beach with friends and family. Derek also enjoys camping and traveling.
Eric Hunter joined the VDC Team in the Summer of 2018 as a Vice President of Preconstruction. In addition to his knowledge in construction as a whole, Eric’s areas of expertise as a Project Manager include property loss consulting, preparing property damage estimates for both insurance and non-insurance related job sites, customer relationship management and coordinate emergency and reconstruction/repairs jobs from the initial stages throughout the completion of work. Eric’s unique and strong restoration background has provided him with the skills for handling any type of project, from mold/fire/water to renovations of large structural commercial / municipalities.
Prior to joining VDC, Eric spent over 15 years as part of a Catastrophic or CAT support team throughout the country. From Hurricane Katrina to Harvey & Irma, Eric has been involved in relief efforts and rebuilding. During this time, he worked in hospitals, schools, and convention centers throughout the most affected & devastated areas. In the years prior to Hurricane Katrina, Eric traveled to numerous countries employed by companies who specialize in the management and coordination CAT teams. Eric’s responsibilities included providing electronic restoration services for cleaning electrical equipment, metal polishing machinery, MRI machines, and textile factory machinery all damaged by water and/or fire as well as restoring heavy steel production machinery damaged by magnesium fires.
Throughout his career, Eric has obtained the following certifications and licenses: Certified Water Damage Restoration Technician, Certified Fire Restoration Technician, OSHA (disaster site worker), OSHA (10 hr. card), OSHA (30 hr. card), Authorized Instructor for 10 & 30 hr. OSHA course, Certified First Aid Instructor and Certified in Lead Repair, Renovation, and Paint.
In his free time Eric enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.
David DiCrescenzo is the Safety Officer / Compliance Director of Veterans Development Corporation. He started this role in March of 2018 but has been part of the VDC team since the early years when the company was involved exclusively in the HVAC industry. David manages all aspects of the company safety program to ensure that we are in compliance with Federal, State, and local laws. He also ensures that we are meeting job specific safety requirements.
He maintains all of our safety manuals and documentation, keeping us always up to date with the newest trends in safety and compliance. David assists with making sure our crew is trained in all required areas and educating them constantly about working safe. David is the head of our corporate safety committee, attends corporate safety meetings and makes job site inspections / visits.
David is also an entrepreneur, an accomplished author and blogger, public speaker, and hands on administrator. He has been known to take a few departures to pursue other business interests over the years, but always comes back to his wheelhouse. His years of business experience in and out of the Construction Industry have taught him to take a very no nonsense, pragmatic and focused approach to every task, and he believes that everything is doable by incorporating a “one small task at a time methodology” while keeping an eye on the bigger picture.
In David’s spare time, he enjoys dreaming about actually having spare time. He is an animal lover and is always open for a deep discussion about politics and what is going on in the world today.
Janet Wilson has been with Veterans Development Corporation, Inc. since its inception in 2004. Her prior experience in the banking and business industry has strengthened her qualifications for the important role she plays at VDC. She assists with overseeing the General Office Operations and assists with Construction and Office Administrative support. She assists with all levels of administration from simply taking a message for someone all the way up to being instrumental in complicated licensing and certification applications and renewals. Janet handles prequalifying applications for projects and submitting electronic bids. Janet also plays a vital role in completing the long and sometimes complicated VA estimate submission process. Since Janet has been here from the very start, she is usually the go to person for the answers to most administrative type questions. She is also the Executive Assistant to the President and CEO and assists when needed with other company executives. Because of her experience with all aspects of the company’s operations, Janet provides invaluable general administrative support to both the estimating and project management departments.
Janet is a sports fan, especially for the New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins. She also enjoys spending some free time walking on the beach and cooking.
Susan Ahola is our Senior Accountant and primarily handles the weekly payroll, preparing certified payroll and accounts payable. Susan joined our team in January of 2018. She has about 13years of experience working in the accounting field and attended Northeastern University for Accounting. Susan has worked in the past for a small cable company, a bathroom remolding company and most recently a manufacturing company of antennas for the Federal Government. Susan’s diversified background enables her to excel in her position at VDC and she is always willing to roll up her sleeves and help out where even necessary, even if it isn’t in her department. She is a true asset to the company.
Susan is also a licensed hairdresser. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her two children and going to the beach.
Lynne Decker is responsible for the mechanical estimating and HVAC project administration. She joined the VDC team in May of 2012. She estimates private and public mechanical and general construction projects from small renovations to multimillion dollar contracts for hospitals, research & development clients, military facilities, schools and universities. Her duties include negotiating subcontract work, major equipment purchases and providing engineering services for the project managers
Lynne graduated with distinction from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and is a mechanical engineer registered as a PE in the state of Massachusetts. She has over 25 years of experience in engineering consulting, HVAC system design, construction and project estimating.
Lynne began her career as a design engineer at United Engineers & Constructors in Boston and with that experience earned her professional engineering license. With relocation to Connecticut and a growing family she worked part-time for Alternative Resource Management as a consulting engineer overseeing small energy improvement projects from design through construction. Back to Boston she began mechanical project estimating first at Frazer Engineering and now at Veterans Development Corporation.
In Lynne’s spare time she enjoys golf and spending time with her family.
Rachael Rockwell joined VDC in the summer of 2017 as an administrative assistant and has since worked her way up to Assistant Project Manager. Rachael is always willing to lend a hand when needed and this strong work ethic is what has allowed her to be promoted from within as she continues to want to learn all she can about every aspect of what VDC does, especially on the project management side. She handles submittals for all projects, subcontracts, purchase orders, completing O&M Manuals, and assists estimating, and attends bid openings. She is a graduate of Bay State College in Business Administration.
Rachael enjoys spending time with her friends and family in her spare time. She enjoys trips to Maine as often as she possibly can.
Kevin Byrne is an Assistant Project Manager for both General Contracting and Mechanical projects at Veterans Development Corporation. He joined the VDC team in the summer of 2018. Kevin has a strong background in the construction industry. He started out framing single family homes on Cape Cod. He graduated from UMass Amherst with a degree in construction management. He now has a year of mechanical contracting behind him and will be taking the lead role on some of our smaller Mechanical jobs in addition to his usual duties as an Assistant Project Manager.
In Kevin’s free time, he likes to stay active, spend time with friends and family on Cape Cod, cooking, and playing with his 2 dogs.
Master Chief David Hanlon is our per diem General Manager of Veterans Development Corporation, Inc. who assists with management and consulting on an as needed basis. He brings 38 years of military engineering and construction experience having a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy Seabees retiring as the Command Master Chief of the 7th Naval Construction Regiment, Davisville, RI. He also brings over 40 years of Municipal Government experience his last 20 years serving as Director of Public Works for the Town of North Reading, Massachusetts. Master Chief Hanlon is a civil engineering graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology and Northeastern University. He also holds an MBA from Nichols College. He is a current member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Chaplain for the New England Chapter of the American Public Works Association, Massachusetts House Minority Leader’s Appointee to the Governor’s Infrastructure Finance Commission, and Chairman for the City of Newburyport Sewer Commission. In addition, Master Chief Hanlon is a recipient of the 2004 American Public Works Association “Top Ten Award”, 2010 Wentworth Institute of Technology “Gold Leopard Award”, Massachusetts Joint House and Senate “Excellence in Leadership Citation”, and a recipient of the U.S. Navy Meritorious Service Medal.
Jim was with Veterans Development Corporation, Inc. for twenty-five years as an Estimator and Project Manager for Plumbing, Piping Projects, and Sprinkler Projects and purchasing agent for Plumbing stock for Veterans Development Corporation, Inc.
